Jeffrey Hubbell is a leading innovator in immuno-modulatory materials, integrating biology, chemistry, and engineering to develop biomaterials and engineered proteins that harness the immune system against autoimmune disorders, allergies, cancer, and inflammatory diseases. Author of more than 400 papers and holder of 100 U.S. patents, his work spans regenerative medicine — advancing therapies for chronic wounds and bone repair — and immunotherapeutics, including nanomaterials for vaccines, targeted RNA/protein therapies, and inverse vaccines for tolerance in autoimmunity and allergy. His research bridges basic science and translation, with six biomedical companies founded on his technologies.

Hubbell previously held faculty roles at NYU, University of Chicago (where he strengthened immunoengineering), EPFL (founding Director of Bioengineering and Dean of Life Sciences), ETH Zurich, University of Zurich, Caltech, and UT Austin. He is a member of the U.S. National Academies of Engineering (2010), Medicine (2019), Sciences (2023) and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (2021).
