I would be interested in the opportunity to use my research, design, implementation skills and particle engineering knowledge to enhance efficiency in the development of novel designs in academia.
I am a senior Chemical Engineer student at the University of Florida with two years of research experience. I have worked at various laboratories throughout my three years of school. Since August 2010, I have been working on designing novel controlled-release liposome nanoparticle (LN) drug carriers for use in chemotherapy. I have researched, designed a protocol and obtained successful in vivo results of a ligand design that adds specificity to the targeting of LN’s to tumor microvasculature. In vivo results on mice showed a significant concentration of target-specific LN’s in tumor vasculature as well internalization of these nanoparticles to the tumor tissue. This technique will increase amount drug uptake by tumor tissue and decrease toxicity of normal cells. I am motivated and have shown productivity and initiative with my project. Currently I am designing a controlled-lysis mechanism using phototherapy (PPT).
Last summer I performed research at the University of Pittsburgh for a 10-week NSF program, where I very quickly taught myself C, Linux operating system and Latex. My research used a DPD (Dissipative Particle Dynamics) method to model the mechanics of tumor cells, which required collaboration of two different faculty members. At the end of the program I presented significant results to the department and was subsequently invited to present my findings at the National Student American Institute of Chemical Engineers Conference in November 2010. And this summer, I am currently working under Dr. Mark Styczynski’s mentorship at the Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Dept. at Georgia Institute of Technology.
You can see by my past performance that I have succeeded in obtaining results for my research groups and making the most of my time in short working periods (like the duration of this internship). I am determined and self-motivated. Furthermore, I have a strong interest in nanotechnology and biomaterials, as well as particle and medical engineering and cancer therapy.
I will be applying to graduate schools to start August 2012. Please contact me via email at sherylchb@gmail.com.

<p><span style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">I am a Mechanical Engineer with an MSc on Biomedical Sciences, planning to finish my PhD on Biomedical Engineering on spring 2013. I have performed my PhD between the Universidad de los Andes in Colombia, Dr. William Wagner's laboratory at the McGowan Institute for Regenerative Medicine in Pittsburgh and Dr. Yoganathan's laboratory at Georgia Tech. My current interest is on moving to the biomaterials/tissue engineering industry after finishing the PhD.</span></p>
<div class="gmail_quote" style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">My focus is on biomaterials/tissue engineering. I have worked since my Masters on the development of an SIS vascular graft for remodeling small diameter (<5mm) blood vessels. The graft has been so far evaluated successfully in a porcine animal model that had as a result the full remodeling of the carotid artery. My interest in industry and translational research have led me to work on a business plan to commercialize SiSgraft: regenerative vascular graft (<a href="http://www.sisgraft.com/" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(17, 85, 204);">www.sisgraft.com</a>). This BP made my team and I 1st Runner Up at Carnegie Mellon's McGinnis Venture Competition. I was also recently interviewed by MIT's Technology Review (Spain) on SiSgraft (<a href="http://www.technologyreview.es/read_article.aspx?id=41133" target="_blank" style="color: rgb(17, 85, 204);">http://www.technologyreview.<wbr></wbr>es/read_article.aspx?id=41133</a>)<wbr></wbr>.</div>

<div class="gmail_quote" style="color: rgb(34, 34, 34); font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px;">My academic skills include mechanical biaxial characterization and constitutive modeling, microstructural characterization with scanning electron microscopy and multi-photon microscopy, <em>in vitro</em> studies with cell culture and shear stress, and <em>in vivo</em> studies in large animal models. I also have experience on grant writing and had a 1 year experience as a patent engineer.</div>

I am seeking a challenging engineering design position in the medical device industry.
During my graduate school experience at the Georgia Institute of Technology, I was the lead engineer on a disposable, non-invasive specimen collection device for diagnosing lower respiratory infections. My responsibilities included the device design, verification testing of the design, and manufacturing of the device, with an emphasis on injection molding. I also worked on the 510(k) application for FDA approval of the device. In addition to the specimen collection device, I worked on two other early-stage medical devices: an implantable insulin-releasing device for diabetics and a wearable artificial kidney for dialysis patients.
I have excellent communication skills, am goal-oriented, and have strong leadership abilities, and I feel I would be an asset to any company.

Dear Recruiter,
I am a student at Georgia Tech, where I will graduate in August 2010 with a M.S. in Physics, and am interested in applying for a Research and Development position in the Biotechnology industy.
As an undergraduate Physics/Pre-Med major at UGA, I quickly developed a compulsion to work in the biotechnology industry, aiding in the development of cutting edge research. Consequently, I entered a summer internship at the CDC, where we studied a vaccine candidate for Bacterial Pneumonia. Following graduation, I began graduate school at Georgia Tech, where I earned a Research Assistantship in a Biomedical Engineering lab under Dr. Cheng Zhu. During this exciting opportunity, I was immediately thrown into the fire, where I was asked to learn about—what was to me—a previously unknown technology called Optical Tweezers, and subsequently design and build a setup for their lab. After its successful implementation, I am preparing to use it in a study of cancer T-Cells.
Through the combination of my laboratory and service industry experiences, along with my extracurricular involvement as a teenage baseball coach, I believe I am equipped with the multifaceted educational and interpersonal tools required to be a valuable asset to your team.
I have enclosed my resume for your consideration, and would be pleased to further discuss my qualifications at your convenience. I can be contacted at 404-314-0220 or by email at JRyanSullivan@Gatech.edu. Thank you very much, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Ryan Sullivan
