This annual 3-day scientific training event is aimed at offering seminars and hands-on workshops on laboratory techniques, software analysis and scientific communication for graduate students and post-doctoral fellows in bioengineering and bioscience research fields. Organized by the Research Committee of the Bioengineering and Bioscience Unified Graduate Students (BBUGS), this workshop is open to any interested Georgia Tech, Emory, Georgia State or Morehouse students.

The symposium training sessions are conducted by Georgia Tech staff and faculty, as well as invited corporate technical representatives with expertise in specific topics of interest.

Sessions are held primarily within rooms in IBB and Whitaker. We have a range of venues available, such as seminar rooms, conference rooms, computer labs and wet labs, which allows for sessions to be taught in lecture as well as workshop demonstration formats.

Come and equip yourself with the research skills you need, get trained by the experts and attend practical seminars on a wide range of topics!

Topics to be covered:

  • Lab equipment and techniques – e.g. confocal microscopy, western blotting, PCR, micro CT, suture lab, animal studies, MRI, Project Management/Research Tools
  • Software and analysis – e.g. IGOR, MATLAB, Systat, EndNote, Biostatistics
  • Communication – e.g. technical writing, presentations, resume writing, interviewing, library research tools
